The psycho-physical lab – Yoga Practice and the mind-body problem by Ohad Nachtomy & Eyal Shifroni book
B.K.S. Iyengar has two sayings that summarize very concisely the attitude of yoga to pain. “The philosophy of pain is to conquer it”. This suggests that we shouldn’t afraid of pain. Pain is an unavoidable part of life. and we better learn to be with pain without being overwhelmed by it. This is the tapas part.
The second is svadhyaya (self-study). “Pain comes to guide your pain is our Guru”. This means that we have to listen to pain and learn from it – to let the pain guide us as a Guru. Indeed. pain may tell us that something went wrong: it forces us to examine and analyze the reasons for it. and to learn how to avoid it. In some cases, pain should cause us to com out of the asana. since, if we don’t we might injure ourselves. But we need to be observant here, since, often, we don’t come out of an asana because of harmful pain, but because of some disturbance or restlessness the pain cause.
第二個是svadhyaya(自我學習)。
